A decision to “have a go” turned into something special this weekend. The West Coast TheatreFest one-act play festival was held in Westport, having been put off last year (Covid), and then again when Westport was flooded last month. 7 plays were entered for the competition and the HDS play “Mediocrity” which was recently performed at the Old Lodge was judged the best. The Adjudicator who hailed from Wellington, said she thought the standard of all the plays was high and that drama appears to be alive and well across the region.
Winning the competition means that along with three other plays, the HDS progresses through to the upper South Island Regional finals to be held (again in Westport) on Aug 28 and 29. Should they be judged successful there, they will then advance to the New Zealand finals in Wellington in September.
To help fund the extra trips, the show will be performed again in the Old Lodge shortly so if you missed it first time, or would like to see it again, make sure you don’t miss this treat.
